A group of highly talented East Durham College media students proved they were amongst the very best in the country after they won silver medals at the WorldSkills UK National Finals 2023 in Manchester.

£3.6 million skills training boost for the North East

The North East is set to benefit from a huge skills training boost, as colleges and universities share a £3.6 million pot through the Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF), focused on the skills requirements of businesses located in Sunderland, Gateshead, South Tyneside and County Durham identified in the North East Local Skills Improvement Plan (NELSIP).

The North East Automotive Alliance (NEAA) has confirmed that the North East Local Skills Improvement Plan (NELSIP) has been approved and East Durham College has been selected as the lead applicant in the delivery of the Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF).

East Durham College announced as lead applicant in the delivery and development of the North East’s Local Skills Improvement Fund.

Building on the success of the government’s Strategic Development Fund (SDF), which East Durham College led on and successfully delivered a £2.7 million project within a challenging 8-month window, which was designed to help further education providers respond to skills training needs in the healthcare and health science sectors. East Durham College is delighted to announce themselves as the lead applicant in the delivery and development of the North East’s Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF) worth £3.7m to be invested in meeting the regions skills needs.
