Suzanne Duncan, our former principal and chief executive, will be awarded her honorary degree posthumously. With her family’s blessing, Suzanne will be made a Doctor of Letters. She had been notified earlier in the year that she was to be made an honorary graduate.

East College Durham recently partnered with Vantec Interactive Experience (VIE) to provide two state-of-the-art immersive training classrooms, at its campuses at Peterlee, and Houghall, County Durham.

A group of highly talented media students from East Durham College showcased their exceptional skills by winning bronze medals at the WorldSkills UK National Finals 2024 in Manchester.

When Mike Herrington joined East Durham College at its Durham-based Houghall Campus in 2022 to help it launch a land based engineering course for Level 2 and 3 apprentices, he really was starting from scratch, with no students and no dedicated workshop. Two short years later the provision is proving to be a great success and is growing rapidly both in terms of the number of students it attracts and in reputation.

Former Houghall agriculture student Graham Wilkinson is the new chief executive of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).

Farm Director Paul Flynn and his team have been developing Houghall Farm into one of the North's leading teaching farms. Supported by Farm Manager Keith Cook and Stockperson Iain Whitfield, who brings a lifetime of livestock experience, along with former agriculture student Leanne Chester, Houghall is thriving and proud to be championing sustainability and animal welfare.

It is with great sadness that East Durham College announce that our former Principal, Suzanne Duncan has passed away.

A suite of retrofit courses that have been developed through a pioneering collaboration between education and industry are now open for applications through the North East Institute of Technology (NEIoT).
