Course overview
The Level 3 in Creative Media Production and Technology programme is designed to help you extend your understanding of the Media Industry whilst developing your skills in planning and producing, researching and creating, filming and advertising and using digital technology throughout.
You will have the opportunity to work in radio, podcasting, social media, journalism, photography, animation and moving image to name but a few. You will work on production projects for external clients, participate in educational visits and use the latest software.
If you are passionate about working in Media, then this programme is for you!
Topics
The programme is 'learner responsive', which means we build projects around the learners who have chosen this programme of study. You will be given guidance over the development of projects which help you to develop independence.
Typically projects in the Level 3 Diploma include advertising, radio or podcasting, interactive media and a final project with your own focus.
The final project of the course is designed to allow learners to utilise skills, knowledge and experience gained over the course of study to showcase their talents and areas of interest. This could include creating a documentary or short film, a photographic project, a podcast or audio project and many more ideas.
You will also participate in recording events such as performances, concerts, stage shows, corporate events and potentially broadcasting live to a variety of platforms including the Creative Industries YouTube channel. You may also have the opportunity to see professional studios at venues outside of college, and experience a different culture on a trip to Holland!

Our entry requirements are in place to support our students in achieving the qualifications they have chosen to study. In addition to the entry requirements, all students will be regularly assessed by East Durham College at an early stage in their study programme. This is to ensure that students are enrolled onto courses which suit their abilities – following assessment, there may be occasions when students are transferred to a relevant course at a higher or lower level in order to ensure they are enrolled on to the right course for them to achieve and progress.
Entry onto any course at EDC may have entry requirements in addition to exam results; this includes but is not limited to DBS checks, references, fitness to practice and at times physical requirements to be capable of achieving the practical elements of the course without assistance. Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal.
