Course overview
The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology is designed to help you expand your understanding of the Media Industry, whilst developing your skills in planning and producing, researching and creating, filming and advertising and using digital technology throughout. You will specialise in the area you are wanting to work in, through production projects for external clients, educational visits and use of the latest software.

The programme is 'learner responsive', which means we build projects around the learners who have chosen this programme of study, as well as taking opportunities that present themselves and considering employer needs.
Projects typically include live news broadcasts , interactive media to analyse audience engagement and specialist studies to prepare for progression into employment or higher education.
You will be given autonomy over projects, and develop creative responses whilst solving problems. Alongside the projects as part of your media course you will engage in an extensive work experience programme with industry professionals, organisations and events!

Further study options after this course
Progression for most learners after successful completion of the Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology is onto a BA (Hons) Degree in Media. Alternative choices include employment within the media sector as a camera operator, games designer, radio producer, researcher, or production assistant, either working for an employer or as a freelance artist.
Entry requirements
To study on the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology requires a Merit or Distinction at Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology, as well as GCSEs in Maths and English at grades 4-9 (or be willing to study maths and English alongside the course).
Our entry requirements are in place to support our students in achieving the qualifications they have chosen to study. In addition to the entry requirements, all students will be regularly assessed by East Durham College at an early stage in their study programme. This is to ensure that students are enrolled onto courses which suit their abilities – following assessment, there may be occasions when students are transferred to a relevant course at a higher or lower level in order to ensure they are enrolled on to the right course for them to achieve and progress.
Entry onto any course at EDC may have entry requirements in addition to exam results; this includes but is not limited to DBS checks, references, fitness to practice and at times physical requirements to be capable of achieving the practical elements of the course without assistance. Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal.
How is this course assessed?
There are 4 formative units delivered in three projects with each unit graded as Pass / Fail. ALL 4 units need to be passed prior to progressing onto the final project, which is graded as 'Pass' / Merit / Distinction'.
The course is assessed internally by an Assessor, before being Internally and Externally Verified to check the marking is consistent. Assessment includes live capture, audio recordings, written submissions, viva voce (interview to camera), photographic evidence, presented as a digital portfolio.

Length of course
The Level 3 Extended Diploma is the second of a two year programme, with the Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology in year one; you will study across four days each week.
This full time study programme courses may also be available to study on a part-time basis if you are aged 18 or over on 31st August. Please check with Student Services for more details.
