Course overview
This part time Level 2 Barbering course is designed to provide you with the basic skills and techniques you need to provide cutting, styling and shaving services to men. At East Durham College you will be trained by our highly-experienced barbering lecturers, practicing with real paying clients in our working salon!

• Health and safety
• Client consultation
• Promoting yourself and products in the salon
• Shampooing and conditioning hair
• Cutting men's hair
• Cutting facial hair
• Drying men's Hair
• Colouring men's hair
As part of the Lee Stafford Academy you will also complete the following recipes:
• Cutting techniques such as uniform layer, long graduation, short graduation, short back and sides and one length below shoulders.
• Colour techniques such as roots, full head colours, ombre and highlights.
Job opportunities after this course
Successful completion of this course will give you the qualifications to cut men's hair at a junior stylist level.
Further study options after this course
After this course, you will be able to progress onto the Level 3 Barbering course.
Entry requirements
Potential learners must have a keen interest in Barbering. Entry requirements are 3 GCSE grade 4 or above or equivalent. Minimum entry 3 Maths and English.
Our entry requirements are in place to support our students in achieving the qualifications they have chosen to study. In addition to the entry requirements, all students will be regularly assessed by East Durham College at an early stage in their study programme. This is to ensure that students are enrolled onto courses which suit their abilities – following assessment, there may be occasions when students are transferred to a relevant course at a higher or lower level in order to ensure they are enrolled on to the right course for them to achieve and progress.
Entry onto any course at EDC may have entry requirements in addition to exam results; this includes but is not limited to DBS checks, references, fitness to practice and at times physical requirements to be capable of achieving the practical elements of the course without assistance. Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal.
How is this course assessed?
Within each unit there is both theory and practical assessment. Practical assessment is completed on paying clients in a realistic salon environment. There are on-line tests to complete as assessment which will be externally marked by City and Guilds. Throughout the course learners will build a portfolio of evidence.
