Introducing the brand new catering experience for Peterlee - The Grove restaurant at East Durham College!
Opened in 2023, The Grove's mission is simple; tasty food, great prices and giving opportunities to our superstar chefs in the making who are studying catering and hospitality here at EDC.
Formerly known as Scene 1, The Grove had an extensive revamp in the summer of 2023, and is now the perfect space for everything from a leisurely lunch, delicious evening meal, corporate event or anything else you can think of!
Food at The Grove is freshly prepared by students who are studying with us here at EDC, supervised at all times by our highly experienced chef-lecturer team. The food we serve is held to the same high standards you'd expect at any restaurant...and we dare say it's better than some too!
The Grove has a fully licensed bar with a drinks menu featuring a selection of wines, spirits and more, so you can also have the perfect tipple to accompany your meal too.
The Grove Restaurant Opening Times
Our restaurant is open at the following times:
- Thursday Lunchtime - 12:00PM to 12:30PM (Last Orders)
- Thursday Evenings - 5:30PM to 6:15PM (Last Orders)
- Friday Lunchtime - 12:00PM to 12:30PM (Last Orders)
Please note that we are only open during term time as the restaurant is part of our students' education.
The Grove Bistro Opening Times
Looking for something a bit lighter for lunch or breakfast? Well, let us tell you all about The Grove Bistro!
Open from 9AM to 4PM every weekday, our bistro service offers a wide variety of takeaway treats or you can even sit in the restaurant if there are no restaurant bookings for a table on Thursday or Friday.
We serve such things including soup, sandwiches, homemade cakes, salads and more, with an updated menu every few weeks or so to keep things fresh and always tasty!

- Warm Danish Pastry & Hot Drink - £4
- Soup of the Day (Served with Warm Focaccia Bread) - £3
- Bacon, Brie & Sundried Tomato Ciabatta (served warm with sweet chilli & basil, accompanied by a side salad) - £4
- Smoked Salmon Sourdough Baguette (with cream cheese and salad leaves, accompanied by a side salad) - £4
- Roasted Mediterranean Vegetable Sourdough Baguette (with melted cheese and pesto, accompanied by a side salad) - £4
- Tomato & Mozzarella Flatbread with Basil Oil Drizzle (add chorizo & spicy chicken for 50p) - £3.50
- Cajun & Lemon Chicken Salad Served with Warm Focaccia Bread - £4
- Prawn & Marie Rose Salad Served with Warm Focaccia Bread - £4
- Grilled Halloumi with Sweet Chilli Drizzle Salad Served with Warm Focaccia Bread - £4
