Do you Ever Wonder How Things are Made?
How is all that stuff crammed into your games console? Who made the screen on your iPhone fit in the case? Do programmes like ‘How it’s made!’ and ‘Scrapheap Challenge’ interest and excite you? Do you enjoy working with both your HEAD and your HANDS? If you can answer YES to any or all of these questions, then maybe a career in engineering is right for you.
At East Durham College, we have a dedicated engineering department with highly-experienced staff who have many years of industrial engineering experience. Our staff are dedicated to giving you the training, skills and knowledge you'll need to succeed in engineering, helping to kick-start your career and give you the attributes employers are looking for, when your time at college comes to an end.

Practical and Theory Together as One
Engineering is a very hands-on, very practical profession. The work of an engineer also has a scientific and mathematical background too; you can expect to take part in practical sessions where you may be creating objects, or you may take part in classroom-based, theoretical environments where you learn the science behind engineering, as well as how to design, plan and create objects from scratch.
Engineering is not an easy discipline to study, but it was an extremely rewarding one. If you work hard and put in the effort, you'll find yourself rapidly gaining new skills and knowledge which you'll put into practical use throughout your course and - at a later date - as part of your working life.
We offer several different engineering courses at East Durham College. If you'd like any more information about any of the courses before applying, we regularly run open evenings throughout the year where you can come to meet our lecturers and talk through your options, or alternatively you can always give us a call on 0191 518 8222 to have a chat.
Engineering at East Durham College, Peterlee Campus
We are currently in the process of moving our engineering training facilities and courses from The Technical Academy over to our main campus in Peterlee.
These state-of-the-art facilities include large open-plan workshop areas, specialist welding bays, training classrooms, our NEIoT engineering suite as well as the other general college amenities such as the canteen, Starbucks, the gym and social spaces.
The engineering department includes the highest standards of equipment and facilities; the college has recently spent over £100k on the department and installed a full suite of Lathes, a Vertical Milling Machine and industry-standard welding equipment, all of which you'll use during your course.
