Course overview

This City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Floristry is for you if you are looking to start a career within the floristry
industry. If you like to interact with others, be creative and are keen to develop practical, technical floristry skills, then this
qualification is for you.

Through this qualification you will learn about different flowers and plants and how to look after them. You will also learn that there is more to floristry than flowers and that for florists to be successful, they need to understand their tools, environment and the finishing touches that make a difference. With this, you will develop an understanding of design principles and the skills needed to apply these to the design and creation of floristry products. You will gain an understanding of how floristry business operate and develop skills needed to interact with customers and identify their needs.

This qualification is suitable if you are 16 years old, or over. You may or may not have any previous knowledge or experience in floristry.

You will gain an understanding of the skills and knowledge that are important when you are working in a floristry setting, or
progressing to further learning and training in this area.

Entry requirements

Must have completed Level 1 Award in Floristry, work in the industry or training towards working in the industry. 3 x GCSE's grade 4 or above including Maths & English.
Floristry

This is a professional floristry qualification and applicants must be prepared to undertake 150 hours industry experience as part of this qualification.

Floristry can be quite physically demanding, you are likely to be on your feet all day in cool environments (it keeps the flowers fresh!).

Our entry requirements are in place to support our students in achieving the qualifications they have chosen to study. In addition to the entry requirements, all students will be regularly assessed by East Durham College at an early stage in their study programme. This is to ensure that students are enrolled onto courses which suit their abilities – following assessment, there may be occasions when students are transferred to a relevant course at a higher or lower level in order to ensure they are enrolled on to the right course for them to achieve and progress.

Entry onto any course at EDC may have entry requirements in addition to exam results; this includes but is not limited to DBS checks, references, fitness to practice and at times physical requirements to be capable of achieving the practical elements of the course without assistance. Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal.

East Durham College's Houghall Campus is committed to providing a supportive and welcoming environment for all our students. The campus, some of which is over 80 years old, has seen over £40m invested in new facilities over recent years. However, there are still some aspects of the site which are not fully accessible and would cause an issue for those with limited mobility or wheelchair users and due to the nature of the site, adjustments may not always be reasonable at this stage.
