Thinking of coming to study at EDC's Houghall campus, in Durham, in September 2025? We're hosting a special open day at Houghall on Saturday 14th June 2025 from 9:30am to 11:30am. Due to the size of the site, last entry is kindly requested by 10:45am.

Find out all about the courses on offer at Houghall, including: Agriculture, Animal Care, Arboriculture (Tree Surgery), Equine and Horse Care, Floristry, Land and Wildlife Management and Veterinary Nursing.

Please note: Our SEND Foundation and Derwent Autism Provision departments are NOT available at this event and will be running their own events. Check out the Events section >> to see their next event.

Whether you know what course you want to do - or not! - EDC's open days are the best way to learn about our range of courses, have a chat with your potential tutors and see what course is right for you!

If you're totally unsure about what you want to do, these days are a great way to come along and get an idea of what EDC has to offer. Our careers advice team are the best people to speak to here, and they're on hand to give you all the information you need to pick the right course.

What to Expect at the Event

Our open day is a fantastic way for you to tour our multi-million pound facilities at Houghall, giving you a real taste of what to expect when you come to study with us.

You are welcome to take a look around all of our facilities, including our farm, animal care centre and equine centre.

You can expect:

  • Curriculum Introduction Talks - a rolling talk will be taking place every 15 minutes, covering key college information and careers in the land-based sector
  • Tours of our animal unit, farm and equine unit
  • Displays by our arboriculture and land and wildlife teams
  • Floristry course information sessions and course interviews

Please note that unless you have mobility issues, we cannot allow cars up to the equine unit as there is extremely limited parking. The equine centre is an approximately 10 minute walk from the main site.
