Hone Your Talent with Performing Arts at EDC

Performing Arts is one of the most varied and exciting industries out there. At EDC, we know that's the case, and that's exactly why we offer Performing Arts courses which focus on different pathways.

We understand that every learner's different - you may love acting, but dislike singing (or the other way round!) and we cater our courses to your individual talents!

Performing Arts at East Durham College covers all of the following pathways:

  • Dance
  • Drama
  • Musical Theatre
  • Production Arts

This is Your Stage!

So whether you dream of lighting up the stage on Broadway, making it as a professional dancer or fancy yourself behind the scenes working on costume, props, light or sound, East Durham College's performing arts courses will be your first step.

Our performing arts pathway also includes work-related activities and work experience placements, giving you a real taste of what it can be like to work in the exciting performing and production arts industries.

Students achieving a full level 3 programme have the opportunity to apply for university entrance to study on a massive range of higher education courses or you could instead seek employment in the Creative Industries.

State of the Art Facilities

Our Performing Arts students get access to some of the very best facilities available in our region. Our Peterlee campus includes state-of-the-art facilities including the area's only 220-seat professional theatre, a dance studio, TV studio and media editing suite, four music practice rooms with PA systems, drum-kit and amplifiers and a ProTools HD recording studio. We aim to make sure your teaching environment is as realistic as possible, giving you a real taste of what your future career might be like in the performing arts industry.

You can also expect to be involved with a wide range of performances throughout the year - our performing arts students stage a highly-popular Christmas pantomime every year, and we also arrange trips to Holland where students get a real taste of performing at a music festival.

Our performing arts staff are highly qualified performers in their own right, with plenty of experience in their field. Their first-hand, up-to-date knowledge ensures they can pass on real, useful experience to you, helping you to get the very most out of your performing arts course at East Durham College.
