Free Maths and English Training

East Durham College is committed to improving the English and maths of all learners to help them develop their skills for life and work.

That's why we offer completely FREE maths and English tuition/workshops for learners at EDC and the wider community.

Whether you're a school leaver looking to start a new course with us and didn't get the grades you'd like in maths and English, or whether you're a job seeker looking to expand your skills and gain the qualifications you didn't previously, East Durham College can help you to gain the maths and English qualifications you're missing.

We offer both GCSE and Functional Skills maths and English tuition at the college. Workshops in Functional Skills are available both during daytimes and evenings, ensuring you can fit your tuition around your life as easily as possible.

Students studying maths and English with East Durham College are given access to a wide range of learning opportunities and to ensure we get the very best out of you during your time with us, you'll also receive a programme of learning which is tailored to your own specific needs.

Functional Skills and GCSEs

Functional Skills

Functional Skills are just that - they're the skills you need in English and maths to allow you operate confidently, effectively and independently both in life and work. English and maths qualifications are great for every job you might be going for, as well as essential for day-to-day tasks. With East Durham College's Functional Skills workshops, you'll get the support you need to succeed and grow in your abilities in maths, English or both.

Our maths and English staff are highly qualified and experienced professionals who are sensitive to the needs of students. They're 100% committed to getting the very best out of you with a tailored tuition plan made specifically for you, and we consistently have higher success rates than the national average for our Functional Skills learners.

The Additional Learning Support team is also available to help meet students’ needs. Some support options available include one-to-one support for reading, writing and numeracy skills, dyslexia support, in-class support, support for learners with a sensory impairment and counselling services.

GCSE Maths and English courses are offered completely free-of-charge for part-time learners, without a grade 4/C or higher and are an excellent way for you to gain these important qualifications you may not have achieved previously
