Brickwork

Serious about building up a great job for yourself? Brickwork could be the course you're looking for!

Construct Your Career with Brickwork at East Durham College

With construction popping up everywhere around us, there's more demand for experienced bricklayers than ever before.

The construction industry offers fantastic opportunities for qualified bricklayers. A poll by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) found that the average bricklayer salary was £42,034 (2018). Another FMB’s survey, in 2020, found that a highly skilled self employed tradesperson working six days a week will earn on average £53,200 a year.

With a brickwork course at East Durham College, you'll be learning all of the skills you'll need to become a qualified bricklayer, and fantastic industry links mean we work closely with local housing and construction firms to provide progression into some fantastic apprenticeship opportunities to our learners.

Learn the Ropes in Our Huge Construction Workshop

You need plenty of room to focus on your work in bricklaying, and that's why here at EDC we have an absolutely massive dedicated facility for bricklaying in our Peterlee campus.

Our facilities are packed full of all the tools and resources you'll need during your course, from trowels to essential materials such as the bricks themselves and cement.

A big part of the course is practical work, learning to construct various types of brickwork. You'll learn a wide variety of different techniques from basic trowel techniques all the way up to advanced work such as building axed arches and bulls-eye windows.

Bricklaying students also get access to the college's modern classrooms and computer facilities, so you can learn the theory behind your course at the same time as honing your practical skills.
