Course overview
This course is designed for beginners that would like to learn the basics of digital photography. You will learn how your camera functions and explore skills through a range of projects across a range of genres.
You will build a portfolio of evidence each week which will be presented to the examiner at the end of the course.
Topics
There are two mandatory units as part of the course:
Use a camera to capture images - you will achieve this through a series of projects set across the course.
Digital image manipulation - you will use programmes such as Photoshop or Lightroom to transform your images.
Job opportunities after this course
An entry level or voluntary role assisting in a studio or shadowing a photographer, however further study is recommended to gain a more in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities within photography.
Further study options after this course
Upon successful completion of the Level 1 Award in Photography, learners can progress onto the Level 2 Certificate in Photography.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however a keen interest in photography and a basic level of literacy, numeracy and IT skills are valuable.

How is this course assessed?
The learner will produce a portfolio of work detailing the journey through the course. The portfolio will be assessed by the lecturer and shared with the external examiner to ensure that standards have been met and all outcomes have been achieved.
