English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) is a part-time course designed for adults who wish to improve their English language skills. It supports learners from diverse backgrounds in developing effective communication for everyday life in the UK.

At East Durham College, we offer ESOL courses from Entry Level 1 through to Level 2, tailored to meet learners’ individual needs. The qualification covers Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing, helping learners build confidence and fluency. 

Students will typically attend two lessons per week with the day and time dependant on learner level. We also have an evening class available which will run from 6 - 8.30pm on Tuesday evenings.

Recognised by many employers, ESOL can also enhance job prospects by clearly demonstrating English proficiency.
