Our Tailored Approach

Once you've been in contact with the East Durham College apprenticeship team, we'll start by scheduling a meeting whenever and wherever is most suitable for you. Whether you'd rather pop into our campus for a coffee, or have us come to visit you, we'll organise a meeting at your earliest convenience.

In the meeting, we'll discuss any requirements you should consider when taking on an apprentice, the ways we can help you, what support we can offer you and answer any questions you might have about the process.

Once we've reached an understanding of how we can work together to source your perfect equine apprentice, we'll get started putting together your bespoke apprenticeship plan, ensuring you're updated on the progress we make.

Step 1: Matching You with the Right Equine Apprentices

By choosing us at East Durham College to find your apprentice, you'll get to benefit from our fully in-house recruitment service.

We'll start by advertising your vacancy for an equine apprentice, pre-screening all applicants for you and consulting our bank of previous applicants who may be suitable for the role.

All new candidates will be invited into the college for their initial interview and a skills assessment, which we will use to determine their suitability for a role within your organisation.

Once we think we've got the right people, we'll get in touch. You can let us know your thoughts on the potential candidates and organise any secondary interviews at your own premises.

Then, it's down to you! By this point we hope you've found the ideal equine apprentice for you and your business!

But that’s not all from us – this is just the first step. EDC are your partner throughout the apprenticeship, and our service doesn’t stop with recruitment. That’s why we say we’re big enough to deliver and small enough to care.

Don’t forget you can get in touch with us now by clicking here, or if you’d like even more info on how we can help your business, keep scrolling.

Step 2: Supporting Your Equine Apprentice(s)

Now we've found you the perfect apprentice, it's time to get started with their training.

As the employer, it is the responsibility of you and your staff to use your experience and expertise to ensure that your apprentice learns a wide variety of new skills.

You'll receive continuous support from the East Durham College apprenticeship team throughout the apprenticeship.

All apprentices are assigned their own trainer/coach, who will visit the premises to observe both you and the apprentice, ensuring they are being assisted in effectively developing their skills.

Apprentices are also expected to complete a weekly day release from work, where they will instead attend training here at East Durham College, with access to our fantastic facilities.

Step 3: Apprentice to Full-Time Staff Member

The ultimate goal for all apprenticeships are to provide employers like you with a brand new dedicated member of staff, who is keen to learn and add value to your business.

With the right support in place from both you - the employer - and us - the apprenticeship team - the ideal outcome would be for your apprentice to be offered a full-time role upon completion of their apprenticeship.

By the end of the apprenticeship, they will have gained the skills and knowledge, and - hopefully! - impressed you during their time at your organisation.

And then, who knows! You might have been so impressed with this apprentice that you're ready to take on another!

We can 100% guarantee after experiencing how the team at EDC really cares about your apprentices, you’ll have the perfect person in mind to continue to partner with going forward.
