Our Tailored Approach

After you've been in contact with our apprenticeship team, we'll organise a meeting at a time convenient for you to discuss any requirements you may have when taking on an apprentice. Whether you'd prefer us to visit your premises, you want a tour of our facilities or to pop in for a coffee, we'll schedule a meeting whenever and wherever, at your earliest convenience.

During the meeting, we'll discuss everything you need to know when it comes to taking on an apprentice. We'll have a chat about how we can help you, what support we can offer you and answer any questions you might have about hiring an arboriculture apprentice.

Once we have an understanding of how we can work together, we'll get started creating your bespoke plan, ensuring you're kept up to date every step of the way.

Step 1: Matching You with the Right Arboriculture Apprentices

By working with us at East Durham College, you'll benefit from our fantastic apprenticeship team and their in-house recruitment service.

We'll advertise your vacancy for an arboriculture apprentice on our college website and pre-screen all applicants for you, as well as consult our bank of previous applicants who may be suitable for the role.

All new candidates will be invited into college for an initial interview and skills assessment, which we will use to determine whether or not they are suitable for a role in your workplace.

Once we believe we've found the right people, we'll get in touch with you. You can let us know what you think of the candidates and organise any secondary interviews at your own premises.

Then, it's over to you! By this point we hope you've found the perfect arboriculture apprentice for you!

But that’s not all from us – this is just the beginning. EDC are your partner throughout the apprenticeship, and our service doesn’t stop with recruitment. That’s why we say we’re big enough to deliver and small enough to care.

Step 2: Supporting Your Arboriculture Apprentice(s)

Now that you've found the perfect candidate, it's time to start training up your apprentice.

As their employer, your staff will be responsible for using their experience and expertise to ensure your apprentice learns a wide variety of new skills.

Alongside this, you'll receive regular support from the East Durham College apprenticeship team.

Your arboriculture apprentice(s) will be assigned their own trainer/coach, who will visit your premises to observe both you and the apprentice, ensuring they are developing their skills.

Apprentices will also be expected to complete a weekly day release, where they will attend training here at East Durham College. They'll have access to the amazing facilities at our Houghall Campus in Durham, and receive support from our arboriculture lecturers who have years of experience in the industry.

Step 3: Apprentice to Full-Time Staff Member

The ultimate goal of any apprenticeship is to provide employers like you with a brand new dedicated member of staff, who is keen to learn and bring value to your business.

With the right support in place from you and the apprenticeship team here at East Durham College, the ideal outcome is that your apprentice will be offered a full-time role upon completion of their apprenticeship.

By the end of their apprenticeship, they'll have the right skills, knowledge of your business, and will have (hopefully!) impressed you during their time at your organisation.

And then, who knows! You could be so impressed with your apprenticeship experience that you're ready to take on the next!

We can 100% guarantee after experiencing how the team at EDC really cares about your apprentices, you’ll have the perfect person in mind to continue to partner with going forward.
