At EDC, we mean BUSINESS.
That’s why we’re the perfect college to partner with to source the next generation of your land-based service engineering workforce.
Our apprenticeship service is fully bespoke to your unique business aims – we completely understand every business is different and has their own requirements, and that’s why everything we do is tailored to you.
With years of experience in matching businesses with the right candidates, comprehensive support throughout your apprenticeship programmes and a college that is big enough to deliver, but still small enough to care about your business, there’s no better place in the north east than East Durham College to partner with for your apprenticeships.
Our Tailored Approach
Once you've been in contact with the East Durham College apprenticeship team, we'll schedule in a meeting at your earliest convenience. Whether you'd like to pop in to see our facilities, or would prefer us to come to you, we can organise a meeting whenever and wherever is suitable for you.
During the meeting, expect you go through everything apprenticeships - we'll discuss your individual apprenticeship requirements, how we can help you, the support we can offer and answer any questions you might have about hiring a land-based service engineering apprentice.
After the meeting, our apprenticeship team will get to work creating a bespoke apprenticeship plan and ensure that you're regularly updated along the way.

Step 1: Matching You with the Right Land-Based Service Engineering Apprentices
By choosing East Durham College to source your ideal apprentice, you get to benefit from our in-house recruitment service.
Once we've identified what you're looking for in a land-based service engineering apprentice, we'll advertise your vacancy on our website and even pre-screen all applicants for you. We'll also check our bank of previous applicants, who we might recommend if we think they'd be a good fit for the role.
Any new candidates will be invited into the college for an initial interview and skills assessment, which we'll use to determine the suitability for your organisation.
We'll send you any candidates we think are the right people, then it's over to you!
You can organise their next round of interviews and hopefully find the perfect land-based service engineering apprentice for you!
But that’s not all from us – this is just the stage one. EDC are your partner throughout the apprenticeship, and our service doesn’t stop with recruitment. That’s why we say we’re big enough to deliver and small enough to care.

Step 2: Supporting Your Land-Based Service Engineering Apprentice(s)
So now you've found the right apprentice, what's next? Now, it's time to start their training.
As their employer, you and your workforce will be responsible to train up your apprentice, improving their skills and knowledge in land-based service engineering.
You'll also receive regular support from the East Durham College apprenticeship team too.
Each apprentice will be assigned their own coach/trainer, who will conduct visits to your premises to observe both you and your apprentice.
Your apprentice(s) will also complete a weekly day release, during which they will be expected to attend training here at East Durham College. Training will take place at our Houghall campus in Durham, where they'll have access to our fantastic practical facilities.

Step 3: Apprentice to Full-Time Staff Member
Once the apprenticeship is complete, we hope they have impressed you enough to start their transition into becoming a full-time employee!
After all, by the end of their apprenticeship, they should have gained plenty of new skills and know your business inside-out!
Then, who knows? You might be so impressed with this apprentice experience that you're ready to do it all again!
We can 100% guarantee after experiencing how the team at EDC really cares about your apprentices, you’ll have the perfect person in mind to continue to partner with going forward.
