At EDC, we mean BUSINESS.
That’s why we’re the perfect college to partner with to source the next generation of your health and social care workforce.
Our health and social care apprenticeship service is fully bespoke to your unique business aims – we completely understand every business is different and has their own requirements, and that’s why everything we do is tailored to you.
With years of experience in matching businesses with the right candidates, comprehensive support throughout your apprenticeship programmes and a college that is big enough to deliver, but still small enough to care about your business, there’s no better place in the north east than East Durham College to partner with for your apprenticeships.
Our Tailored Approach
Once you've been in contact with our apprenticeship team, we'll arrange a meeting to discuss any requirements you may have whenever and wherever is convenient for you! Whether you want to pop in for a coffee at our on-site restaurant, take a tour of our health and social care facilities, or if you would prefer us to come to you, we'll schedule in a meeting at your earliest convenience.
At the meeting, we'll discuss everything you need to know about the process - we'll have a chat about how we can help you, what support we can offer and answer any questions you might have about hiring a health and social care apprentice.
Once we have an understanding of how we can work together, we'll get started creating a bespoke plan for you and your business, ensuring you're regularly updated on how things are progressing.

Step 1: Matching You with the Right Health and Social Care Apprentices
Working with East Durham College to find apprentices means you'll benefit immediately from our in-house recruitment service.
We'll advertise any vacancies for health and social care apprentices on our college website and pre-screen all applicants for you. We also have a bank of previous applicants who might be suitable for the role.
New candidates will be invited into college for an initial interview and skills assessment, during which we will determine whether or not they are suitable for a role in your workplace.
Once we believe we've found the right people, we'll get in touch with you - you can let us know how you feel about the candidates and organise interviews at your own premises.
After that, it's down to you! By this point you'll hopefully have found the perfect health and social care apprentice(s) for you!
But that’s not all from us – this is just stage one. EDC are your partner throughout the apprenticeship, and our service doesn’t stop with recruitment. That’s why we say we’re big enough to deliver and small enough to care.

Step 2: Supporting Your Health and Social Care Apprentice(s)
Now you've found the right candidate, it's time for your new apprentice to begin their training.
As an employer, your staff will be responsible for ensuring your apprentice learns a wide variety of skills, supported by your current workforce and their expertise.
Alongside this, you can expect regular support from the East Durham College apprenticeship team.
Your health and social care apprentice(s) will be assigned their own trainer/coach, who will make regular visits to your premises, observing both you as an employer, and the apprentice to ensure they are developing their skills.
Apprentices will also complete a weekly day release where they will attend training here at East Durham College. They'll have access to the amazing health and social care facilities at our Peterlee campus, receive support from our long-serving health and social care lecturers who have years of experience in the industry.

Step 3: Apprentice to Full-Time Staff Member
The end goal of all apprenticeships are to provide you, as an employer, with a brand new dedicated member of staff, keen to learn and add value to your business.
With the right support in place from you and the East Durham College apprenticeship team, the ideal outcome is for your apprentice to be offered a full-time role once they've finished their apprenticeship.
By the end of their apprenticeship, they'll have the right skills, knowledge of your business and will have - hopefully! - impressed you during their time at your organisation.
And then, who knows! You may be so impressed with your apprenticeship experience, you're ready to take on the next!
We can 100% guarantee after experiencing how the team at EDC really cares about your apprentices, you’ll have the perfect person in mind to continue to partner with going forward.
