Our Tailored Approach

Once you've gotten in contact with our apprenticeship team, we'll arrange a meeting whenever and wherever is convenient for you to discuss any requirements. Whether you'd like us to come to you, or you'd like to pop in and see our facilities, we can schedule a meeting at your earliest convenience.

During the meeting, we'll discuss everything from how we can help you and what support we can offer, as well as answering any questions you might have about hiring an apprentice. Then, we'll get started on creating a bespoke plan for you and your business, ensuring you're kepy updated on our progress.

Step 1: Matching You with the Right Carpentry and Joinery Apprentices

When you work with East Durham College, you’ll benefit immediately from our fully in-house recruitment service.

We'll advertise your vacancy for carpentry and joinery apprentices on our college website and we'll even pre-screen all of the applicants for you, as well as revisit our bank of previous applicants who may be the right fit for a role within your workforce.

New candidates will be invited into college for an initial interview and skills assessment, where we will determine if they are suitable for your vacancy.

Once we've found the right people, we'll get in touch with you to see how you feel about each candidate and organise interviews at your own premises.

Then it's down to you! At this point, we hope you find the perfect carpentry and joinery apprentice(s) for you and your business!

But that’s not all from us – this is just the first stage. EDC are your partner throughout the apprenticeship, and our service doesn’t stop at recruitment. That’s why we say we’re big enough to deliver and small enough to care.

Step 2: Supporting Your Carpentry and Joinery Apprentice(s)

Found the right candidate for you? Fantastic! Now it's time for your new apprentice to begin their training.

As the employer, your staff will be responsible for ensuring that apprentice(s) learn a variety of new skills, supported by the expertise you can offer with your current workforce.

Alongside this, you can expect regular support from East Durham College's apprenticeship team.

Your carpentry and joinery apprentice(s) will be assigned their own trainer/coach, who will make regular visits to your premises to observe and mentor your apprentice's development, and you as their employer.

Apprentices will also complete a weekly day release, where they attend training here at East Durham College. They'll have access to our incredible carpentry & joinery facilities at our Peterlee campus, supported by the expertise of our long-serving carpentry and joinery lectures, with years of industry experience.

Step 3: Ready to Welcome Your New Full-Time Staff Member?

The end goal of any apprenticeship is to provide you, as an employer, a new dedicated member of staff who is keen to learn and add value to your business.

With the right support in place from you and us at East Durham College, the ideal outcome is for your apprentice to be offered full-time employment upon completion of their apprenticeship.

After all, by the end of their apprenticeship they'll have the skills, an understanding of your business and (hopefully!) will have impressed you during their time.

Then, who knows, you may have been so impressed with your apprentice, you’re ready to take on your next one!

We can 100% guarantee after experiencing how the team at EDC really cares about your apprentices, you’ll have the perfect person in mind to continue to partner with going forward.
