Course overview
This programme has been developed with input from a selection of animal experts and employers to provide the necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours for those intending to seek employment across the animal management sector. This programme aims to provide learners with a robust foundation of knowledge and skills to prepare for employment within this diverse and varied sector. This programme is ideal for those who wish to study and work with animals in a range of contexts, and those who will go on to postgraduate study or employment within the animal management sector.
Topics
The BSc (Hons) Animal Management builds upon prior knowledge, linking in content relating to all elements of the animal management industry, including the management of both captive and wild animals.
The BSc (Hons) has a research focus, with modules specifically designed to prepare students for postgraduate life. Notably, Science Communication helps learners to develop communication and organisation skills, whilst Research Innovation allows learners to explore research concepts and examine chosen topics in a comprehensive way. These modules complement the year-long Research Project module, allowing learners to develop and implement an original research project within the animal management sector. Learners have the freedom to design their own project based on learning developed in previous modules, allowing topics such as nutrition, health, conservation and welfare to be explored.
In addition to research focused modules, an emphasis has been placed on current issues facing the sector. Anthrozoology and Global Environments are two complementary modules that aim to promote abstract considerations from learners to explore and tackle real-world issues such as human-wildlife conflict and climate change.
