Former painting and decorating student Shauna went on to huge success at University before moving on to tutor others in China.

Since leaving East Durham College, Shauna moved on to study interior design at Teesside University. While studying, Shauna has also had two full-time jobs and graduated in 2019.

“Going to uni has been the most amazing 3 years, but also testing!” said Shauna. “I would recommend going to university – you’ll look back and be grateful for what you’ve achieved.”

After graduating, Shauna is moving to China for 9 months, where she’ll be teaching English. Shauna said: “I feel like it will really push me out of my comfort zone and help me be a more independent person. Seeing the joy on the student’s faces will bring me great happiness knowing I’m helping them speak better English.”

Shauna has some great advice for potential students considering EDC as their college. She said: “Just for it! Once you have a degree, A Levels or even a diploma, the possibilities are endless!

“East Durham College, for me, was a breeze. I was the only girl in my subject but that never stopped me from being the best I can be. I learned new techniques every day and the staff were 100% supportive of my work and extra-curricular projects. I am very proud to say I have come from EDC and would recommend any school leaver to consider it as a choice – they will not be disappointed!”

Shauna also has fond memories of her tutor, Adrian Otty, who taught her painting and decorating during her time at EDC. She said: “If my students in China look up to me like I looked up to my college tutor Adrian, my goal will be complete!”

From all of us at the college we wish Shauna the best of luck in China, and her no-doubt extremely bright future career beyond that.
