Katy McLean

Former East Durham College student Katy McLean MBE captained the England Women RFU team from 2010 and retired from Rugby in 2019. The RFU World Cup winning captain attended East Durham College from 2002 to 2005.

South Shields-born Katy plays fly half and used to represent Darlington Mowden Park Sharks before she turned professional to play for England Women's Sevens.

Katy received an MBE in the 2014 New Year Honours list for services to rugby.

Rio Olympics 2016 Update

England sevens captain McLean was part of the Team GB side who won their group at Rio but were agonisingly beaten 25-7 by New Zealand in the last four. The 30-year-old, from South Shields, was also part of the Team GB side who lost the bronze-medal match to Canada 33-10.
