Typical job titles include:

Gardener, Grounds maintenance operative and Horticulturalist.

This occupation is found in a wide range of outdoor spaces with horticultural spaces including public parks and gardens, green spaces, schools, tourist attractions, business and retail parks, historic gardens, private gardens, and estates. Some organisations own the horticultural space such as public gardens and private estates. Some will work on a variety of spaces belonging to other people such as domestic gardens, construction sites, retail and business parks. Employers may be charities, commercial businesses or governmental organisations and range in size from micro businesses through to large employers.

Entry Requirements:

• Determined by employers on an individual basis.
• This may include assessments in maths and English, physical fitness, and in some cases willing to work towards or hold a driving license.

Apprenticeship start dates:

September and April.

This includes college attendance at Houghall campus, DH1 3SG.

Off the job training: 557 hours

Off the job training is a mandatory funding requirement and a critical component of apprenticeship development. It ensures apprentices acquire the Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviour's defined within their standard completed within working hours.

Financials: 

Wage: National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage rates - GOV.UK

National Insurance: From 6 April 2016, employers may not need to pay Class 1 NI contributions for an apprentice if the apprentice is under 25 years old and earns less than £967 a week (£50,270 a year)

Employer contribution:

For apprentices aged 16–21, and 22–24-year-olds with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan or who are care leavers, the government currently funds 100% of training and assessment costs. For apprentices aged 25+ employers pay 5% of the apprenticeship training and assessment costs, with the government funding 95%.

Apprenticeships will be fully funded for employers who pay the apprenticeship levy and have positive funds.
