Level 1 Land based Studies - Introduction to Dogs
Course overview
The aim of this 10-week course is to provide a safe introduction to the animal care sector specialising in Dog welfare and behaviour. Giving you vital industry insight to help you make informed career decisions and allow you to progress to further qualifications and employment opportunities. We hope it will inspire you to grow and to continue learning.

The course includes how to ensure highest welfare standards for the dogs in your care and an introduction into dog behaviour

This course will inspire you to take animal care to another level! It is aimed at beginners, taking their first steps in to the welfare and behaviour of dogs.
For previous students this has allowed them to enhance their skills with regards to welfare and behaviour of dogs. For others it has supported them into a career change into the animal care industry
In time, students could build on this, progressing through the award and certificate and onto our further level 2/ 3 and degree programmes or alternatively working in rescue centres, kennels etc.
Further study options after this course
Students will be able to progress through the Award and Certificate in introduction to Dogs. We also offer
Level 2 certificate in Animal welfare and Behaviour
Foundation Degree in Animal Management
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, but you must be physically capable of completing all assessments and have literacy skills sufficient to access the course materials.

How is this course assessed?
The course is assessment by a mix of written and practical assignments, supported by your course tutor. Where this includes Health and Safety, there will also be a short on-line multiple-choice exam.

September 2026 and January 2027
Length of course
The Award runs for ten weeks, three hours per session - Thursday evening 5.30-8.30
