Lee Stafford Visits to Celebrate EDC’s LSE College of the Year award.
Staff and students at East Durham College were excited to welcome celebrity stylist Lee Stafford to host a masterclass, workshop and to celebrate EDC’s achievement of College of the Year Award, giving students the chance to learn the skills of one of the biggest names in hairdressing.
Beginning at his mother's dining room table as a teen, with only determination, Lee quickly grew his career, opening his first salon ‘The House That Hair Built’ in his 20s. Lee worked until his breakthrough, in 1997, when he won Men’s British Hairdresser of the Year. Winning this award drove Lee to fame, spotlighting him on shows such as This Morning in the Hair and Beauty edit, as well as the manager of the salon in Celebrity Scissorhands. His iconic bright pink range of haircare also launched, bringing the revolutionary heat protectant spray onto the scene of hairdressing, 25 years ago.
However, through his career journey, Lee quickly realised that not a single person he employed as a hairdresser was straight out of college, completing their time without the real-world skills needed to become a hairdresser as successful as himself. It was at this time that he debuted Lee Stafford Education, a network of further education college salons delivering high-quality, industry-ready training, giving the best opportunities for apprentices and aspiring hairstylists. His goal was to bridge this gap, using his own ‘recipe’ for colour, cutting and styling used across the UK.
Students and staff at EDC described his visit as ‘totally inspiring’, adding that his partnership ‘opens so many opportunities’ for student’s future careers.
During his visit, Lee hosted a live masterclass and workshop for level 2 and 3 hairdressing students, demonstrating his signature methods in hair styling. He shared stories about his humble beginnings and gave students advice on delivering the best quality service. He also delivered a speech, congratulating EDC’s win of LSE College of the Year award and praising staff and students on their commitment and creativity.
