East Durham College is proud to launch a brand-new recognition scheme celebrating staff who go above and beyond in embodying the College’s core values. Each month, staff members who demonstrate outstanding commitment to one of our key values will be nominated and celebrated as Values Champions.
The awards shine a spotlight on the exceptional individuals who help make East Durham College a welcoming, supportive and inspiring place to study and work.
Celebrating Our October Values Champions
We are delighted to announce our very first winners: Lisa Brougham and Tamsin Thompson, who have been recognised under the value of Students First, reflecting our commitment to ensuring learners are at the heart of everything we do.
Both winners will receive a three course meal for two with a bottle of wine at The Grove, our student run restaurant at the Peterlee campus.
Lisa Brougham
Lisa has been recognised for her remarkable dedication to enhancing the learner experience for agriculture students at our Houghall campus. She has taken the initiative to organise a programme of guest speakers, industry visits and enrichment activities that bring learning to life and connect students to real-world opportunities. Her commitment ensures that our Agriculture learners benefit from a rich, varied and engaging educational experience.
Tamsin Thompson
Tamsin’s daily practice exemplifies what it means to put students first. She works tirelessly to deliver an ambitious and inclusive curriculum tailored to the needs of every learner in her care. Her lessons are known for being interactive, engaging and enjoyable, fostering a positive learning environment where students feel safe, supported and motivated. Tamsin consistently seeks feedback, encourages aspiration and builds strong relationships that help students thrive, a genuine model of the College’s student-centred ethos.
Embedding Our Values Across the College
The Values Champion Awards have been introduced to recognise the many ways staff contribute to the success, wellbeing and ambitions of our students. East Durham College’s values Excellence, Students, Respectful and Sustainability guide our approach to education, community and continuous improvement.
These awards will:
- Celebrate outstanding contributions by staff
- Encourage a culture of appreciation and shared purpose
- Highlight the positive impact our community has on the lives of learners
Each month, a different value will take centre stage. November will focus on Excellence, a core value that reflects our determination to deliver high-quality education and exceptional service to the communities we serve.
