Heleana Blain

Heleana is building her career as a Painting & Decorating apprentice after turning her college course into a long-term opportunity in the trade. 

She started studying painting and decorating, which is part of our Robertson Homes developing futures project. After hearing Wes, Land Director at Robertson Homes, talk about making yourself known and the opportunities available, Heleana introduced herself to Wes and continuously talked to him around college, taking his advice to put herself forward. After experiencing the first site visit, Heleana knew it was what she wanted to do.  

When work experience placement became available, Heleana was selected by Wes for the opportunity. She completed her placement with Paul Bertram Painting & Decorating, where she gained real experience on-site and began to build her confidence in the trade.  

After completing her placement, Heleana secured an apprenticeship with Paul Bertram and now works in the industry alongside her time learning at EDC. She travels to various sites across the North East, showing her dedication to the role. Now combining work and learning through her apprenticeship, Heleana is developing practical skills and building her future in the industry. 

As Robertson’s first Painting & Decorating apprentice, Heleana marked an important milestone in her journey and for the programme.
