Course overview
As the use of technology becomes an even bigger part of everyday life, the opportunities to work in the tech sector grow too. Hardware and software support, digital trainer, application tester, infrastructure engineer, solution architect, cyber security, network security, business analyst - the list grows by the day.
This course is designed for post-16 students, and is equivalent to 3 A Levels. It is the gold-standard qualification if you are intending to progress directly to employment within the digital industry, a digital apprenticeship or, to higher education. This new qualification brings the classroom, work placement, and employer involvement together, ensuring that you develop the knowledge and skills employers need.
Our skilled and knowledgeable lecturers have considerable experience in the sector and will fully support you to develop the knowledge and skills to be an effective practitioner in the growing and existing digital sector. During college-based sessions, they will work with you to explore key elements of the digital support services through fun, dynamic and innovative learning experiences. Our state-of-the-art Digital lab will give you invaluable learning opportunities through simulated activities that enable you to be fully prepared for your industry placement and to be highly effective in your digital career. You will be working with the latest high-end IT, audio-visual and emerging technology throughout your course.
Topics
The T-Level In Digital Support will cover the knowledge and key concepts, theories and principles as well as core skills for the digital sector. You will find about the importance and scope of digital technology in business, the careers and skills needed to embark on a digital career, investigate and work the hardware and software tools used to develop and support digital technology. You will focus on the specialist area of Digital Support. This will include:
- Applying procedures and controls to maintain the digital security of an organisation and its data
- Installing, configuring and supporting software applications and operating systems
- Discovering, evaluating and applying reliable sources of knowledge

Entry requirements
Applicants require at least GCSE Maths at grade 6 and English grade 5, plus a selection of other subjects.
Our entry requirements are in place to support our students in achieving the qualifications they have chosen to study. In addition to the entry requirements, all students will be regularly assessed by East Durham College at an early stage in their study programme. This is to ensure that students are enrolled onto courses which suit their abilities – following assessment, there may be occasions when students are transferred to a relevant course at a higher or lower level in order to ensure they are enrolled on to the right course for them to achieve and progress.
Entry onto any course at EDC may have entry requirements in addition to exam results; this includes but is not limited to DBS checks, references, fitness to practice and at times physical requirements to be capable of achieving the practical elements of the course without assistance. Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal.
