C&G Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles

This qualification focuses on the service and maintenance of light vehicles (cars and vans up to 3.5 tonnes).

You will be trained in all areas of light vehicle mechanics and electronics, from engine and exhaust systems, to air conditioning and security features.

It is not necessary to hold any previous qualifications or be on a current work placement to take this course.

The key skills you will have acquired upon achievement of this qualification are:
servicing vehicles – carrying out checks and maintenance according to the manufacturers’ guidelines
repairing and replacing faulty parts and components
advising the service receptionists about required repairs
producing time estimates
maintaining repair and service records.

City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles or an apprentice in the motor vehicle industry. This qualification will prepare you to become a light vehicle service technician and work at
an independent garage, a large manufacturer or even in your own business.

Applicants require a minimum GCSE Grade 4-9 (C) or equivalent in English and maths.

Our entry requirements are in place to support our students in achieving the qualifications they have chosen to study. In addition to the entry requirements, all students will be regularly assessed by East Durham College at an early stage in their study programme. This is to ensure that students are enrolled onto courses which suit their abilities – following assessment, there may be occasions when students are transferred to a relevant course at a higher or lower level in order to ensure they are enrolled on to the right course for them to achieve and progress.

Entry onto any course at EDC may have entry requirements in addition to exam results; this includes but is not limited to DBS checks, references, fitness to practice and at times physical requirements to be capable of achieving the practical elements of the course without assistance. Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal.

1 Year. Full Time. 50% of the program delivered in a classroom environment. 50% in the workshop. Students will be required to carry out independent learning using IT resources made available to them.
