What to Expect at the ED6 Parents/Carer Evening Event
As the parent/carer of a prospective East Durham College sixth form student, we would like to invite you to come along to our first event ED6 parents’ evening event.
This is a bespoke event to provide information and guidance about what to expect from East Durham Sixth Form and an insight into what your daughter/son will experience whilst in our care at ED6.
We will discuss enrichment, including our special offer for gifted and talented students - The STRIVE Academic Skills Enhancement Programme - as well as provide advice and guidance on what subjects your child could take to get them where they want to go onto after sixth form. The STRIVE programme has been set up to help get our students into the top universities in the country - including Oxbridge and the Russell Group universities.
At the event, you will also have the opportunity to speak with a number of our current students about their experiences at East Durham Sixth Form, as well as their intended progression routes and how they have been supported and motivated to aspire higher.
We will cover subject spotlights, as well as discuss our overall curriculum offer and introduce you to our new subjects on offer for 2023 entry. There will, of course, be plenty of time to ask questions, so you can rest assured that East Durham Sixth Form is the right place for your child. Our staff will be on hand throughout the event to guide you through a wide variety of issues and important topics relevant in the transition from school to a sixth form environment.
There's no appointment needed – please arrive from 5pm with presentations starting at 5.30pm.
Please come along to the Peterlee campus (address above), parking is free, and make your way to the Welcome check-in desk in the atrium.
Great Pass Rates. Great Grades. Great University Destinations. A Great Sixth Form!
For the past eight years, ED6 students studying 3 A-levels or more have achieved a 99-100% pass rate on their exams.
- We are the region's best-performing sixth form centre, with our students achieving a 99-100% pass rate on their exams for the past 8 years (2016 to 2023, students taking 3 or more A-levels).
- In 2023, a massive 22.4% of our students' grades were A*-A grades, 37.2% were A*-B grades and 57.9 were A*-C grades.
- The list of universities that ED6 students have recently progressed to is impressive, to say the least. It includes prestigious institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Edinburgh, Leeds, Imperial College London and Newcastle.
- We were ranked as the best college in the whole country for the progression students make from GCSE to A-Level in 2018 - something we are extremely proud of. This demonstrates that students of ED6 make more progress than what is expected of them based on their GCSE results than anywhere else in the country - this means that ED6 has a proven track record of boosting academic results.
- Smaller class sizes - we keep our classes smaller than other providers, ensuring that learners don't feel excluded and get direct tuition from our teaching staff.
On top of this, ED6 students get all the benefits of East Durham College, including our modern Peterlee campus and completely FREE travel to and from college thanks to our partnership with Arriva North East buses.
